Summary Profile
Marc has a wide ranging and diverse level of experience, skills and abilities relating to the development and furtherance of services for people who are excluded, disadvantaged and in need. His approach to working with organisations and the individuals who use their services, work for them or commission services is one of thinking, researching, talking and listening, with a special focus on recognising the impact of our varying differences and the value therein. The critical element of any work that he undertakes is that people come away with a strong sense of their views having been heard, the options clearly presented and with clear and realistic action plans for future development and growth.

Key recent NDTi contracts in which Marc has been involved
• 2011: Leading the fieldwork team for an action research project: Not a One Way Street (funded by Joseph Rowntree Foundation) exploring models and approaches of mutual support and reciprocity for older people with high support needs.
• 2011: Running a visioning and values workshop for Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services (PAVS)
• 2011: Working with colleagues in CSV and the Ageing Well programme to deliver a set of Masterclasses themed on older people as volunteers.
• 2011: Training Needs Analysis for Alabare Christian Care and Support.
• 2010-11: Part of the NDTi team working in partnership with the National Mental Health Development Unit to facilitate a Learning Network, using the Achieving Age Equality toolkit with a focus on older people and mental health.
• 2009-2010: worked as a part of a small NDTi team to deliver a (web based) audit tool which will enable NHS and Local Authority organisations to assess how they are performing in relation to age discrimination, and to determine future actions as they work towards achieving age equality.
• During 2009: worked as part of an expert facilitation team established by NDTi to work with the Department of Work and Pensions and other government departments in designing and delivering a range of consultation events seeking the views, ideas and innovations of older people, in order to inform the final shape of Building a Society for All Ages, the government strategy on ageing.

Employment History
• 1982 Volunteer worker (development project evaluation) South India.
• 1983 – 92 The Society of St James (a homelessness organisation), Southampton. Several posts, culminating as Chief Officer (87-92). Responsible for tenancy involvement activity, development and maintenance of human resources policy and practice, project development, servicing the Board of Trustees, budgeting, accounting and fund raising for the organisation, representing the organisation to public bodies, community groups and to other stakeholders, and all the other aspects of running a small, but growing charity (10 housing schemes and 32 staff). A particular achievement: overseeing the development and opening of a purpose built direct access night shelter and negotiating with other voluntary agencies in Southampton to allow St James the full allocation of the sector’s housing grant to do so.
• 1992-94 Southampton and SW NHS Trust, Community Services Manager, Mental Health Services. Responsible for the management of 2 in-patient wards, 4 community based teams, outpatients department and ECT department. Budget accountability for £1.2 million, line management of 22 staff. A particular achievement: being directly involved in the development of multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Teams.
• 1994-2001 Chief Officer (and Company Secretary) of the Resettlement of Offenders Coordinating Committee (ROCC), an umbrella organisation for the voluntary and statutory supported housing sector, with the particular purpose of generating and sustaining partnership and multi agency working. A particular achievement: developing ROCC’s independent (consultancy based) funding and chairing the multi-agency County Accommodation Group which oversaw the strategic development and implementation of Supporting People across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
• 2001 – 2010 Self-employed as a consultant and trainer. Have also worked as an Associate consultant with Tuklo Orenda (Diversity consultancy) and with ROCC. 2009 appointed as Affiliate to the Audit Commission and also as an NDTi Associate. Particular achievements: building a successful consultancy business and setting up an art and photography business.
• July 2009 Marc joined the National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi) as an Associate, and then was contracted for 18 months to work as a Development Consultant (Older People and Ageing Programme).

Marc is a member of AMED (Association of Management and Education Development. He has an extensive track record as a Trustee/Director of various voluntary organisations, including MIND and Children in Need. Marc is Company Secretary of a film company and a volunteer member of The Environmental Network for Pembrokeshire.
